It's only fair that I should introduce you to Elizabeth!

Elizabeth is a 1972 Bay window camper, the 72 model is a one year only model which slotted in-between the early, and late bay window models, this basically means that she has a early front end and a later backend. For those of you who don't know, the differences are in the lights and bumper, the early model has the indicators just above the bumper, and its a round bumper which wraps around the bottom of the doors to form steps. moving to the rear the light clusters are Tall instead of small!

She looks very respectable ,a true lady! however the restoration has started and well it has to be said that the cosmetic surgery that she has had in the past is now failing her! The front and the three quarter view seem to show a camper that is in very good condition, or at least for her age (said quietly!) but when the strip down started it was apparent that a lot of work was needed, although nothing that worried me to much (apart from the roof, but I will get to that later!)

In this picture you can see the tall light clusters which were new from this year, The camper looks very complete from the outside if not a bit tatty!, however there were a few bits missing and not in the right place! the first of these was the interior, which as explained by the seller was in such a mess that I wouldn't have wanted it! (templates would have been nice!!) and the other problem was the engine, which had been removed and restored, but not fitted back in, so I couldn't tell if it worked, however I did get a spare engine so it doesn't worry me.

Three things to note (not laugh at!) one there is no engine, two there is no interior, and lastly the pop-top is about to fall of! Once I had got Elizabeth home the first thing I wanted to do with her was get her inside! hence I had started to remove the pop-top, as it was the only way it was going to fit in the garage (and even then I wasn't sure) restoring outside wouldn't have worked as we don't have summer any more in Britain!, and it would have rotted away quicker then I could have welded it up.

The interior, or lack of it! you can see the pop-top in this picture, at least this was all complete. but the conversion isn't a very good one, and I reckon that it was carried out later on in her life. once I had removed the top I discovered that the roof was a real mess, the frame in the roof didn't fit at the back and there seemed to be an extra bit of frame-work leaving a two inch gap between the rock and roll beds and the back frame. But I have already found someone who is breaking a camper and is happy for me to cut the roof off, and he also has most of the interior going spare as well. Big time result!

The engine (not where it should be!) it looks very nice but unless it is connected to the gearbox there is no real way of testing whether it runs. you may have also noticed that it is missing heat exchangers and an exhaust, the other engine does have both of these bits but they are rusted badly, so I will be adding them to my list!
